Position Description: After basic training and with significant
ongoing support from the program coordinator, volunteer advocates assist
homeless clients through the initial and first appeal stage of the SSI
disability claims process. Involves ongoing contact with clients, their
health care providers, and Social Security analysts; assisting clients
with forms; developing, managing and presenting evidence to show disability.
Volunteer Qualifications: Good reading, writing, oral communication
skills. Maturity. Compassion for homeless people. Interest in legal, medical,
social work issues. Law or pre-law undergraduate students preferred.

Position Description: Assist homeless program coordinator with SSI

following: ordering and following up on records; photo-copying; and telephone
contact with clients, health care providers, Social Security case managers
and analysts, and other agencies involved in providing care and resources
for homeless individuals.

skills in a not-for-profit legal setting.
