

Steve Chabre, Staff Attorney
Steve Chabre joined The Hawkins Center as a Staff
Attorney in 1995. He previously worked as Coordinator of Disability Benefits
Advocacy at the General
Assistance Advocacy Project in San Francisco, California, and as a
Law Clerk for the Office
of the United States Trustee. He received his J.D. from U.C.
Hastings College of the Law.
Rebekah Carlson, Bookkeeper
Rebekah Carlson joined The Hawkins Center as receptionist in 1999 and
was subsequently promoted to bookkeeper.
Sonia Chien, Legal Assistant
Sonia Chien joined The Hawkins Center as a Legal
Assistant in 1999. She previously worked for the Law Office
of Marilyn Kaplan and San Francisco District Attorney's Office. She is
fluent in both Mandarin and English. She is currently pursuing a bachelor's
degree in Political Science and Psychology at University
of California, at Berkeley.
Mayra Corleto, Office Manager
Mayra Corleto joined The Hawkins Center as Receptionist in 1997. She
subsequently took on the duties of part-time Bookkeeper and was then promoted
to Office Manager in 1999. She is fluent in both Spanish and English, and
has translated numerous materials for The Hawkins Center.
Janet D'Andrade, Social Worker
Janet D'Andrade joined The Hawkins Center in 1998. She oversees The
Hawkins Center's Social Work Program.
She has worked in the social work field for ten years, most recently as
a case manager at Golden Gate
Regional Center. She received her Masters degree in Social Work from
San Diego State University.
Kelly Dunn, Executive Director,
Attorney at Law
The Executive Director, Kelly Dunn, acted as
a consultant in the founding of the Center and joined the agency full time
as a Staff Attorney in 1987. He became Executive Director in 1991.
In addition to actively representing clients in administrative hearings
and in Federal Court over the past eleven years, Mr. Dunn has conducted
disability benefits advocacy trainings and given numerous presentations
regarding all aspects of Social Security and SSI law to various agencies,
county and private medical clinics and other community groups in the Bay
Area. Mr. Dunn is an active member of the Bay Area Association of
Social Security Claimants' Representatives and the National
Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives. Prior to
joining The Hawkins Center, Mr. Dunn practiced plaintiff's side consumer
litigation and environmental law. Mr. Dunn received his J.D. from the University
of California, Boalt Hall School of Law and has been practicing
law since 1982.
Linda Durston, Ph.D., Law
Clerk
Linda Durston received a Ph.D. in Rhetoric from the University
of California, Berkeley, and is a Juris Doctor Candidate (1999) at
the New College of California
School of Law. Linda was responsible for The Hawkins Center's SSI
Children with Disabilities Program. She also coordinates the Center's
Homeless Project in partnership
with the Bay Area Regional Benefits Access Collaborative (BAYBAC), providing
pro bono representation in SSI and Social Security disability claims to
homeless individuals in Contra Costa County. Linda joined the Center as
a legal assistant in 1994. She volunteered with the Bar
Association of San Francisco as an advocate in the Homeless Advocacy
Project from 1994 to 1996. She is the principal author with Linda G. Mills,
Ph.D., of "Toward a New Dynamic in Poverty-Client Dynamics: The Rhetoric,
Politics and Therapeutics of Social Security Disability Hearings," which
appeared in the June 1996 issue of the Yale
Journal of Law and Feminism.
Rhonda Edwards, Benefits Advocate
Rhonda Edwards studied International Relations at San
Francisco State University, and has approximately nine years of legal
work experience. Rhonda began her work at The Hawkins Center in February
of 1995. Her vigorous approach and dedication to her work have launched
her through several administrative titles in our organization. She currently
coordinates the Initial and Reconsideration
Program, and is an advocate for client benefits at the initial and
reconsideration levels of the Social Security process.
Ana Estrada, Receptionist
Ana Estrada joined The Hawkins Center in 1999
as a receptionist. She has worked in the past in administrative support
for AAA and has a license to sell life insurance. She is fluent in
Spanish and English.
Sandra Fasold, C.P.A., Staff
Accountant
Sandra Fasold joined The Hawkins Center in 1994 as Staff Accountant.
She previously worked as Controller for R & K Industrial Products Co.,
Inc. in Richmond and the Association for Community Outreach and Residential
Needs in Evanston, Illinois. She also worked as Staff Accountant at Frank
L. Sassetti & Co. and Staff Auditor at BDO Seidman. She received her
B.S. in Accountancy from Calvin College.
Nancy Ibarra, Legal Assistant
Nancy Ibarra joined The Hawkins Center in 1998. She previously worked
for the Lawyers'
Committee for Civil Rights, Arroyo and Coates Investment Brokerage,
and the Mission Economical and Cultural Association. She is fluent in both
Spanish and English and has translated numerous materials for The Hawkins
Center. She is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Sociology at San
Francisco State University.
Beth H. Mazie, Staff Attorney
Beth H. Mazie joined The Hawkins Center as a Staff Attorney in 1997.
Prior to joining the Hawkins Center, she worked as an attorney at Disability
Rights Education & Defense Fund, and as a Supported Living Specialist
at the Golden Gate Regional Center.
Beth currently serves on the Executive Board for United
Cerebral Palsy-San Francisco. In 1996, she received the Outstanding
Volunteer in Public Service Award from the San
Francisco Bar Association. She received her J.D. from George
Washington University.
Nancy Stuart, Staff Attorney
Nancy Stuart joined The Hawkins Center as a Staff
Attorney in 1998. Beginning November, 1998, she will be Staff Attorney
for the HIV Legal Services Project, a
joint project of The Hawkins Center and the AIDS
Legal Referral Panel. She previously worked as a Staff Attorney at
the Lawyers'
Committee for Civil Rights, where she represented multi-ethnic clients
in civil rights class action and impact litigation. She volunteers with
the Legal Services Program
of the State Bar of California. She
received her J.D. from U.C. Hastings
College of the Law.
